HIKING, WINE & TRUFFLES IN ITALY
April 23–30

Welcome to a journey that combines the best of
Piedmont – wine, nature, history, and flavors. We will be staying for the entire week in the medieval wine capital of Alba, the heart of the UNESCO-protected Langhe region. With easy walks among vineyards and villages, truffle hunting, and meetings with winemakers, we will get a taste of the region's soul. Piedmont is perhaps best known for its powerful wines such as Barolo and Barbaresco – but here you will also find Dolcetto, truffles, hazelnuts, and world-class Italian hospitality.

DAY 1 – April 23

Departure from Skellefteå by plane to Milan, where our bus will meet us for the onward journey to Alba. The landscape changes from the vastness of the Po Valley to the hills of Piedmont. We check in at Hotel Calissano – a comfortable and elegant hotel just outside Alba's historic center. In the evening, we will enjoy a multi-course Italian welcome dinner with local wines. We will also receive an introduction to the week's program and the walks and wines we will encounter. [ M ]

DAY 2 – April 24, Truffle hunting and hike to Barolo

The day begins with a guided truffle hunt in the woods outside Roddi, where we meet
truffle hunter Gianni and his dogs. A fascinating insight into the world of truffles – from scent to clump of earth. We then travel to La Morra for a walk through the vineyards down to Barolo (5 km). Picnic along the way. In the afternoon, we will enjoy a wine tasting at a family-run winery with Barolo and Langhe wines. Here we will understand why Barolo is called "the wine of kings and the king of wines." [ B, L ]

DAY 3 – April 25, Dolcetto di Diano d’Alba

Today, the morning is free for you to explore Alba on your own. The city is known for its towers and beautiful cathedral. The medieval city center is octagonal in shape and features lots of small alleys, delicatessens, and restaurants to suit all tastes. Alba is a popular destination for Italians on their Sunday outings. After lunch, we will take our bus to Diano d'Alba. The town is famous for Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba, a wine that has been awarded the highest DOCG classification. Here we will taste wines with a soft fruitiness and low astringency at a small vineyard. [ F ]

DAY 4 – April 26, Hike from Neive to Treiso & Barbaresco

We begin with a visit to the village of Barbaresco and its wine cellar. Today's hike takes us between Neive and Treiso (approx. 8 km), through vineyards, small paths, and gravel roads. A peaceful but beautiful tour where we get to know the landscape in depth. After a picnic, we finish with a tasting at Marchesi di Barolo – a long-established producer focusing on Nebbiolo and Barolo. It is a journey in both flavors and history. [ B, L ]

DAY 5 – April 27, Free day or optional excursion

Today you have the whole day for your own activities. Alba is home to the famous Ferrero Rocher chocolate factory, named after its founder. No outsiders are allowed into the factory, but you can try the chocolate in the village. There are also a couple of spa facilities within walking distance. For those who want to join an excursion to Asti, just over 30 km away, an extra excursion is arranged. Asti is known for its sparkling wine Barbera di Asti, among other things. It is a fresh wine that is best enjoyed on site. A tasting is arranged for those who choose this extra excursion. [ F ]

DAY 6 – April 28, Hiking in Alta Langa & farmhouse lunch

We head to Bossolasco – the pearl of Langhe – for a 7 km nature walk through deciduous forest and open countryside at around 700 meters above sea level.
Afterwards, a rustic lunch awaits us at a farmhouse, with local dishes and wine from the farm's cellar. Here, life is slow, the food is authentic, and the view is miles wide. One of the highlights of the trip. [ B, L ]

DAY 7 – April 29, Wine final in Alba

Free morning – perhaps a visit to a chocolate shop, market, or short hike with the tour guide. In the evening, we gather for a festive farewell dinner featuring three classics from the region: Barolo, Barbera, and Barbaresco. A wine tasting and
dinner combined – a last chance to savor the flavors of Piedmont. [ B, L ]

DAY 8 – April 30, Return journey

After breakfast, we pack our memories, hiking boots, and perhaps a bottle of wine, and take our bus to Milan Linate for our flight home to Sweden. and Skellefteå [ F ]
