DAY 1, August 3, Skellefteå to Saltstraumen
We leave Skellefteå in the morning and drive west towards the mountains. Our first stop is in Arjeplog, where we take a coffee break with a view of the Hornavan lake system, Sweden's deepest inland lake. The journey continues into Norway to Nordland Nasjonalparksenter, where we have lunch and are introduced to the magnificent nature that lies ahead. In the evening, we reach Saltstraumen, the world's strongest tidal current. Here we see the water swirling in huge maelstroms – a fascinating natural phenomenon. Dinner and overnight stay at Saltstraumen Hotel. A short evening walk down to the pier gives us the last views of the day over the mighty current.

DAY 2 – August 4, Glaciers, fjords, and the Arctic Circle
After breakfast, we start with a photo stop at the Ureddplassen viewpoint, known for its modern monument and views of the mountains and fjord. In Glomfjord, we visit the power plant built inside the mountain, an exciting story of Norwegian engineering. Right next to it, we see Svartisen, Norway's second largest glacier, glistening blue against the mountain walls. We will have lunch with a view of the glacier before continuing south. During the day, we will take two ferries, including one across the Arctic Circle – a highlight for many travelers. The day ends in the coastal town of Sandnessjøen, with dinner and overnight stay at Scandic Syv Søstre.

DAY 3 – August 5, Dønna and Herøy
Today, we experience authentic island life. We take the ferry to Dønna, where we visit Dønnes Farm and Church, a historic estate dating back to the Middle Ages. Here, we are treated to coffee and cake. From Dønnesfjellet, we enjoy sweeping views of the archipelago. The tour continues to Herøy, where we have lunch at the charming Augustbryggo restaurant, located by the water. We also stop at the local museum before taking the ferry back to the mainland. In the evening, a unique dinner awaits us at the Viking seat Torolvstein – an experience with long tables, traditions, and exciting stories from the Viking Age. Overnight stay in Sandnessjøen.

DAY 4 – August 6, Vega and Torghatten
We continue south to UNESCO-protected Vega, an island known for its unique tradition of eider houses, where locals have worked with eider ducks for generations to collect their valuable down. Here we take a guided tour, visit the World Heritage Center, and have lunch at Vega Hotel. After several hours on the island, we take the ferry back to the mainland and drive on to Torghatten – the mountain with a large hole right through it. Here we take an easy hike up to the opening where we can walk through the mountain and see the fjord on the other side. We spend the evening in the coastal town of Brønnøysund, with dinner and overnight stay at Thon Hotel.

DAY 5 – August 7, The coast towards Trondheim
We leave the Helgeland coast and follow the road south. During the trip, we experience the varied landscapes from fjord to inland. We stop for lunch in Steinkjer and coffee along the way, arriving in Trondheim in the afternoon. Here, there is time to stroll through Bakklandet, the city's charming old quarter with colorful wooden houses, or visit Nidaros Cathedral – Norway's national sanctuary. Dinner on your own.

DAY 6 – August 8, Trondheim and Frösön
The morning begins with a city walk in Trondheim. We will see Nidaros Cathedral, the old city wall, and the lively harbor. Time for lunch on your own, and then we continue our journey across the border back to Sweden. In Östersund, an authorized guide meets us for a tour of Frösön, known for its beautiful views of Lake Storsjön and the mountains. Here we see Sommarhagen, the home of Wilhelm Peterson-Berger, and Frösö Church. Dinner and overnight stay at Frösö Park.

DAY 7 – August 9, Lapland and return journey
On the last day, we travel home through Lapland. In Dorotea, we have lunch at Doro Camp before continuing on to Lycksele for a coffee break. We arrive in Skellefteå in the evening after a week filled with coastal landscapes, islands, mountains, fjords, and culture—a trip that sums up the best of the Helgeland coast.
